This installation is one of many experiments that attempt to move out of the traditional ‘screen’ through which video is usually viewed. Introducing objects into an otherwise 'flat' practice brings a new dimension of materiality into the scope of visual narrative.
 
Using a heap of mirrors to reflect the projection of the video caused the entire room – walls, floor, ceiling – to be filled with fragments of the original video, breaking its rectangular ‘frame’. The video and audio were both recorded just before a storm descended, and reflects some of this anticipation in the birds’ behaviour and sounds. 

This sense of anticipation is frustrated by the use of the broken matka in which the pieces of mirror were encased. The associations of the broken pot – with earth and soil, something used to carry water, but also its religious sense of an ending as used in Hindu funerals – come into contact with the images of the sky borne birds and their sounds, and create a friction, or tension, that holds the work together.
