Yantra (32°N/Horizon), 2025
public sculpture
A second iteration of the Yantra public sculpture was commissioned for the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The sculpture contains a periscope, that allows the audience to view the horizon at ground level. This mechanism references Kochi’s millennia-long history as a port city that has been a pivotal point in the oceanic geographies of the Global South, and home to voyages from antiquity to the present day. The suturing together of these reflections, embedded within the Yantra’s history as part of a site that is known for protests and global solidarities, allows the viewer an unbounded view that would be otherwise inaccessible from the courtyard.
